Looking for Signs in Spring

Barbara Edler

From here
Your favored spot
I watch
Elm tree buds
Frantically waving
I feel
Sun rays
Warming my face
I ponder
Pregnant clouds
Full of promise
I recall
Devil’s Tower, last summer
An ominous wind’s
Keening lament
I stared
At a burnt tree
Frozen in place
Were you calling to me then?
I’ve been waiting so long
For a sign
Today, gazing at the spring sky
In your favorite place
I wonder
Are you loved?
Are you safe?
