JUST WORLD: Poems
Just Word(le)
Jennifer Guyor Jowett
/jəst/
behaving according to what is right and morally fair
“a just and equitable world”
T U O R T
in a world
where they want us to make-believe
and look the other way,
pretend we didn’t see
what took place before us,
we hold this to be self-evident
R M H Y T
within a yellowed wood
the choice to explore the road,
downtrodden or otherwise,
can not matter –
existence belongs to everyone
I R E D E
belief in a world
where we value
humanity in the human
justice in the just
where principle is principal
and life is for living
Q U A I L
we can math our way
divide and subtract
to infinity
but this sum is infinite
H Y O O R
set fire to both heart and words
carry the integrity of our grandmothers
the merit of our grandfathers
who trod upon this dirt
and rise (we must not be moved)
W O R L D
we live in our truth
where right is a creed
and equal an honor
