JUST FUTURES: Poems

A Remembrance

Rachel Toalson

Sometimes I forget
that my decisions carry the weight
of generations

Sometimes I forget
that I belong to others
and they belong to me and
we belong to each other

Sometimes I forget
that kindness and love can
take the form of
self-denial and
restraint

Sometimes I forget
that in my pursuit to
save or (accidentally) destroy the planet
I am not alone
but connected to the world’s
past present future

Sometimes I forget
that I am human
